Ra Ra Riot

It would appear that, in what seems like only a matter of weeks, the world has fallen hopelessly for New York five-some, Ra Ra Riot. Rolling Stone have gone as far as to place them in their 'Six Artists to Watch in 2008' list. Superficially, Ra Ra Riot make interesting melodic indie-pop, rife with musical optimism. A more considered listen would reveal an edge of vocal melancholy, befitting of a band who lost their drummer in an accidental drowning. To be filed in between Islands and Arcade Fire. Interestingly enough, Milo Bonacci, the band's guitarist, was a member of emo hip-hop group, Gym Class Hero.

The band's debut album, The Rumb Line is available now.

Casxio

Casxio make music as though the period of '89 to '08 was a baron musical wasteland. That's not a criticism, more an observation of their heavily influenced 80's sound. Prince's falsetto vocals, Duran Duran's bass lines and New Wave's melodies. There's no doubt they make incredibly likable, instantly catchy pop-funk records, but I do wonder if they take themselves a tad too seriously. What I mean to say is, a dash of irony wouldn't go a miss. But what do I know?

Friendly Fires

A chance listen to Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show introduced me to Friendly Fires. Having just returned from playing shows in Los Angeles and New York, this Hertforshire based triplet are soon to embark on an extensive UK tour, furnishing venues with their danceable indie/electro/shoegaze sound. I kind of want to say Friendly Fires are Britain's answer to Van She, just without the album delays. Their eponymous debut is to be released 1ST September on XL.

Retro Cosmic

Lord of the remix competition, St. Andrew aka Victory Force aka Andrew Swanson, is nearing completion of his debut extended player entitled Retro Cosmic. With its release due sometime mid September, Retro Cosmic is likely to see a departure from previous work. In fact, the E.P. is described as a concept album in which notions of space and cosmic consciousness are explored through music. Sounds heavy, but I guess I wish others would be so ambitious.

Le Corps Mince De Françoise

"Will I like Le Corps Mince De Françoise?" Well, I guess that depends on your opinion of CSS, as Le Corps (as they shall lazily be referred to) have taken a rather large leaf out of the Brazilian's I Want to Make it Big (Now, Now, Now!) notebook. Is that a bad thing? Well, not if crude lyrical content delivered on a plate of upbeat electronic pop is your shizzle. The remainder of '08 sees this all girl Helsinki trio completing their debut album while playing sporadic dates throughout Europe. Catch them at Flow '08
